WINTER IS ALIVE!

A COOLER WORLD CARNIVAL

FEBRUARY 12 – MARCH 7, 2021 | MADISON, WI

Winter is Alive! a cooler world carnival is a multi-disciplinary event fusing art and spectacle to revision climate change and activate global relationship. Taking place during late winter, it will be an opportunity to reawaken a positive vision of the future where we collaborate to reduce climate change and create inclusive community between people and nature. The goal of Winter is Alive! is to create venues for personal reflection, environmental dialogue, and provocative inspiration.

Winter is Alive! will feature outdoor sculptural installations and live streamed performative and narrative events including open-mics and forums. Virtual gatherings will be shared through outdoor projection. Themes relevant to seasonal festivals, rituals and activities will be reconsidered as transformative platforms for awareness and creative solutions to global warming and human reconciliation.

The frozen lakes of Madison, Wisconsin, provide a visually and conceptually compelling site for installations and dialogue. Emphasis will be placed on reaching as many communities as possible locally, with multiple sites city-wide engaged throughout the event and globally, through live streamed virtual collaboration and dialogue.

Winter is Alive! a cooler world carnival is presented by the City of Madison Arts Commission, Garver Events, and Sustain Dane. This project is the collective endeavor of many individuals and organizations including Clean Lakes Alliance, Dane Arts, the Madison Central Business Improvement District, the Madison Metropolitan School District, the University of Wisconsin Arboretum, Wisconsin Salt Wise and the University of Wisconsin Sculpture Program.
