Anemometer, Steel, Nylon, 2’x6’x10′, 4’x6’x6′, 8’x6’x7′, 2021

An anemometer is a device used to measure wind speed: an elegant, visual representation of the speed at which air moves. Situated to catch the prevailing, northwesterly winter winds, Anemometer consists of three large windsocks dancing and shimmering in a circus of color as the currents of air inflate them. Anemometer highlights the power of the winter wind, which, though not actually alive, is often more animated than anything else outdoors in the Midwest winter. Using the invisible force of the wind, these structures create a picture of motion and change in the cold, quiet winter.
