“When a Tree Thrives” celebrates the important role trees play in converting carbon dioxide into biomass while reducing the rate of climate change. Envisioning the atmosphere as multi-color translucent particles floating between ethereal black and white spirit trees reminds us to minimize our own contribution to carbon dioxide, to protect trees we live with, and seek ways to contribute to reforestation. When trees thrive, we all thrive. Installation can be viewed safely from large windows or may walk an indoor path for a fully immersive experience.
Trees cannot fly, run, or crawl to escape the escalating effects of climate change nor can they evolve as quickly as the pace the climate is warming and weather patterns shifting. Trees play a critical role in sequestering carbon from the atmosphere to slow the rate of climate change and in regulating the water cycle.
Native species are threatened by drought, flooding, deforestation, and a rise of invasive insect and plant species—what is native today may not survive changing conditions. Awareness of the proper species for changing conditions in local regions is one of the solutions being studied by forestry scientists. Future forests will look different but can thrive if we pay attention.
When trees thrive, we all thrive.
